Consumption and mass production have weighed heavy on my mind over the past few years. As I've become more aware of the objects in my life, more often discarded than regarded, I've decided to put the disposable to good use. From spice containers to pickle jars: after a good wash I fill these objects thoughts, messages and poems and place them in the world. The Philadelphia world.
We have much to gain from the observation of our material life. There is likewise much to be gleaned from the predecessors to everyday objects. What we now regard as commonplace are the progeny of multiple systems born from human innovation. Independence Living History Center had provided the public with an entry point into our object's past as well as the cultural past of Philadelphia, a vital opportunity. Due to lack of funding, this center was forced to move--thus closing its doors to the public. Treasures lay beneath our feet, windows for understanding and context. The archaeologists and volunteers of ILHC work to bring these treasures to light, reformed and reconfigured in all their glory.
